Unlock the Space
Creators with at least 10,000 subscribers (or 1,000 subscribers for registered nonprofits) can access our state-of-the-art production resources to help them create their next great video...all at no charge. This page explains the qualifications for producing at a YouTube Space and the benefits of joining.
How it works
Unlock the Space is an orientation that gives creators the necessary tools to make the most out of every YouTube Space production. The first step is an online training covering our policies, booking procedures, overview of resources, and copyright training. The online training takes about an hour to complete.
The second step is a live session that expands on the online training and includes a facility tour. Up to two team members from your channel can participate in the live session. Only primary channel owners and lead producers need to attend live session.
Lastly, after completing both steps of Unlock the Space, you will be issued a Master Use Agreement for your signature. The "MUA" is the formal agreement creators make with Google in order to utilize a YouTube Space.
To produce at YouTube Space Los Angeles, you must:
- have a YouTube channel with at least 10,000 subscribers ( or 1,000 subscribers for registered nonprofits).
- have no current copyright or Terms of Service strikes on your qualifying channel(s)
- complete an “Unlock the Space” orientation
- be at least 18 years old. If you are under 18, you must attend with a parent or legal guardian.
- not have a channel for a consumer brand*
We’re often asked “What’s the catch?” There isn’t one! Participating channels retain all their ownership of content, monetization, and creative control.
That said, we take matters of copyright and YouTube’s Community Guidelines seriously. Therefore, every video produced at YouTube Space LA must pass through a legal clearance review prior to publishing. Only projects that are free and clear of copyright claims and meet our Community Guidelines pass this review. Apply to Unlock the Space only if you believe your content will meet these guidelines. We do spend a good amount of time on this subject during Unlock the Space to help you better understand these topics.
Google retains the right to approve the concept/subject matter of the content you intend to produce at the Space.
*Consumer brands must be part of YouTube's Brand Partner Program in order to utilize a YouTube Space. Consult your Google account executive for more information
Please note that if you are unable to register for an "Unlock the Space" orientation once you complete the online training, please be sure to check back regularly as we offer sessions on a monthly basis.
