DONATION BRINGS HOPE TO SCHOOL CHILDREN IN WESTERN CAPE

On 20 March R250,000 worth of school trousers were handed over to Ms Mandisa Monakali and Ella Monakali-Mangisa of Ilitha Labantu, an NGO operating in disadvantaged communities throughout the Western Cape.

Around 8,000 school children attending schools in Gugulethu, Langa, Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Cross Roads, Athlone and Elsies River will benefit from this donation made by Cape Town fashion retailer and entrepreneur Mark Lifman.

Ilitha Labantu provides support to local communities, and has been working with Lifman to address the issues encountered by children in the Western Cape. This latest contribution follows a donation of school shoes by Lifman last year.

Ella Monakali-Mangisa, COO of Ilitha Labantu says "We have been engaging with Mr Lifman with regards to the challenges faced by children in our community and he has committed to providing essential support."

"My businesses are committed to supporting economic uplifment in the Western Cape, and I wanted to do something to assist school children in the area, as I strongly believe that education is the key to reducing social inequality and a major driver in social and economic development," says Lifman about the donation.

On Wednesday 20 March Lifman visited some of the schools that would benefit from his donation, featured here are Sokhanyo Primary School and Siviwe School of Skills in Gugulethu.
