I Would Love to Get Together and See How We Can Help Each Other

We have all heard that before. Generally comes with a free cup of coffee offer.

I would love to get together and get to know you better to see how we can help each other.

Easy to say but rarely followed with any sweat equity of delivering on their promise.

When people tell me that they want to learn more about me my brain often answers have you checked me out on Google? But my mind isn’t my keyboard which can be a good thing.

In times of recession when people didn’t have a job getting together was a good thing. It seemed just like a company meeting at the place where you used to work.

The networking game has matured and is largely online for most people.

I know that meeting in person is the ideal event.

But networking in person takes a lot of time and time is getting condensed. Most days feel today feel like daylight savings days when you lose an hour.

I have taken the bait before. The head and the heart move in different ways.

Have you had a chance to see my site I ask? Briefly I hear which code for no.

Didn’t you learn in school that you have to have your homework done?

And that be prepared is the Scouts creed in networking.

None the less it troubles me to turn people down. We all have our lists of reasons. Pay it forward, good karma, social currency and all the rest. Nothing that the bill collectors understand.

I heard a great story on NPR the other day on networking. In three minutes their expert source gave me the secret answer.

Here was their lesson. When people connect in this fashion ask them to give you 3 ideas on how they think they can help you. I would take one.

I think that the days of people saying I would love to get together and get to know you and see how we can help each other came from a time when resumes were important.

Most people have moved on to a more productive game.
