Chronicles the flourishing jazz scene in a small California coastal city, Santa Cruz, CA. The history of jazz in Santa Cruz goes back to the turn of the 20th century with various bands at the beach. The Cocoanut Ballroom became a stop for all the major swing bands in the 30s and 40s. This was followed by the bebop players in the 40s and 50s. Later on the jazz scene was further enhanced by a unique jazz education program at the local community college as well as the opening of the Kuumbwa Jazz Center both in the early 70s. Jazz continues to thrive today in this unique setting.
