With the new school year approaching, it's important to remember that traffic safety around our schools is everyone's responsibility. The Automobile Club of Southern California, Burbank Unified School District, City of Burbank, and the Burbank Police Department are combining efforts to prevent potential traffic dangers students face when walking to/from, bicycling to/from, and/or being dropped off or picked up from school.

The afternoon hours are particularly dangerous for children walking and bicycling home from school. Over the last decade, nearly one-third of child pedestrian fatalities nationwide occurred between 3 and 7 p.m. According to NHTSA’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), in 2016 alone, 40 pedestrians and six bicyclists under 18 years old were killed in California. Visual demonstrations will provide students, parents and drivers with important reminders as schools prepare to start again.
