The Political Theory Project presents a Janus Forum Lecture titled "Colleges and Coal: Should Brown Divest?" Several leaders in energy discuss whether university divestment from energy companies is an effective way of protecting the environment. The discussion leads speakers to examine whether Brown has a responsibility to divest from the fossil fuel industry. Speakers include Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org, the organization that spearheaded a coal divestment campaign; Christian Parenti, journalist and author of The Tropic of Chaos: Climate Change and the New Geography of Violence (2012); and James Rogers, former chief executive officer of Duke Energy.
