7. The second pill(ar) to stop ageing: Of the three pills or pillars to stop ageing, we have discussed food as the first one in the previous three videos. The second pill is the physical activity. Everybody knows about it talks about it, and is almost obsessed about it. Before I go into how to make use of the physical activity for stopping ageing in two minutes, we need to understand why physical activity is good for health. Nobody doubts that physical exercise has wholistic effects, which not only improve the local muscles being exercised, but also improves the mood, the memory, the libido, self confidence, balance, walking and much more. How does that happen? This is where an extremely important concept needs to be understood, and that is the relationship between stress and health. We all talk about the bad bad effects of stress, we are totally stressed out about it. And that is quite rightly too. Continuous, chronic, uncontrolled stress is devastating for body and mind. But stress is also the principle and the engine of life. Low level stress, with a period of recovery, is almost always good for health and survival. This is the phenomenon of HORMESIS. Exercise is the best example of hormesis. Exercise is stress; and exercise is good. Stress of choice is good – hormetically. I will talk a bit more about hormesis, hormetins and hormetics in the next two minutes.
