Hot cross buns are a traditional Easter treat in many parts of the world. Hot cross buns are basically a bread dough, enriched with currants and sometimes candied peel, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and finished with a sticky sugar syrup glaze and a flour paste cross painted on top. The cross symbolises the crucifixion of Christ.
Hot cross buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday.
