Playing Samuel Barber's Adagio For Strings. This is from 1936, earlier than the 60's but so much more modern, isn't it? The ultimate ambient trance-ish piece... Tried to make it sound like metallic yet organic, mixing my Nord Stage 2 string orchestra samples with synthesizers. Not very satisfied but can't seem to do better, I think I realize why Barber specified "for strings" in the title. :)
It has been used in numerous soundtracks: Oliver Stone's Platoon, David Lynch's The Elephant Man, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie, etc.
