Forensic knowledge and technology provide the objectivity needed for a strong criminal justice chain in a secure democratic society, says Andro Vos of the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI): forensics don't judge you on your skin colour, religion or sexual orientation. But as we enter a new era in forensics, Vos explains, new crime-fighting technology will call for a careful balance between the needs of security and the right to individual privacy. As a Programme Director at the NFI, Andro Vos led a pioneering programme on crime scene investigation, bringing together techniques ranging from augmented reality and serious gaming to thermal and spectral imaging. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
