Healthy Seas - a journey from waste to wear
Around 640,000 tons of abandoned fishing nets lie around rocks and shipwrecks. They remain there for a long time. Every day these "ghost fishing nets" trap thousands of marine animals, including turtles, dolphins, seals, sharks and crabs. An exhausting struggle, ending in certain death, awaits them...
The HEALTHY SEAS initiative helps to prevent this unnecessary suffering and death by removing the nets from the seas.Once ashore, the nets go to a cleaning and recycling factory. They are transformed into high-quality ECONYL® nylon, which is used to make socks, lingerie, swimwear and carpets - turning the waste into wear that reaches you!
You can help by spreading this story, taking local actions, or buying sustainable products, like those made from ECONYL® nylon. Or make a donation! If you are an enterprise or institution you are invited to become our Associate Partner.
