The Chaconne, a brief theme with twenty variations, was in 1916 the first published piano-work of Nielsen in nearly twenty years. The work builds to a thunderous climax in variations 16 and 17 before relaxing into a quieter tempo and a major key. This fine performance of this fascinating work was given by the Danish pianist Elisabeth Nielsen at the 2016 Indian Summer in Levoca Festival.
