Taking a break this week from tutorials (I will be posting some upcoming tyflow and houdini tutorials in the coming days) I sit down with two of the VFX supervisors on Game of Thrones to talk about their experience on the show.

Since I stopped posting the Podcast on YouTube 6 months ago - I'm experimenting with this format to just pulled literally 4-5 minutes of some of the episodes to share some insights about the Allan McKay Podcast guests and some of the valuable information shared on each episode.

If you're interested in listening to the full episode check out https://www.allanmckay.com/212/

This episode I sit down with Jörn Großhans and Thomas Schelesny (who won an emmy last night for Game of Thrones, congrats!) and we chat about their experience on GOT as VFX Supervisors.

Both work at Image Engine in Vancouver as VFX Supervisors, but previously have worked for other studios on these shows such as Pixomondo and Scanline VFX.

We talk about a lot of really cool really exciting topics around Game of Thrones Visual Effects from how they shoot the harness shots of the actors riding the dragons - to their crowd simulations, collaborating with Weta Digital and Scanline VFX - using Houdini 3DS Max and other key tools across multiple studios on key shots and so much more.

This was a lot of fun - but also I would love your feedback on this.

As I mentioned, this is an experimental format. We put so much time into the Podcast, and with 212 episodes out (we've got episodes scheduled until April next year right now - with loads of feature film directors and other guests - I just did one with the head of ILM last week, and have two feature film directors lined up for next week- so lots of cool stuff coming!).

Typically we release these episodes, and then go onto the next one. And I feel there is such an immense value and wealth of information in these episodes, tapping into some guests decades of experience, that I would love to have a chance to share more of this.

So this is a chance to hand pick just a few minutes of much larger conversations to show case and hopefully gain some interest in checking out the full length episodes.

Again, I'd love your feedback - if you think this isn't interesting and I'm wasting my time then let me know - or if you think this is something you would like to see for many more of the episodes - even better!

I value your input , and I hope you find this information valuable also.

Thanks for watching - and if you want to check out more - I've linked to the Podcast below.

Thank you!

Allan
