Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art is proud to present the world premiere of The Ten Murders of Josephine, by artist Rana Hamadeh.
▍A living, constantly changing sound game.
The Ten Murders of Josephine is an Opera project by artist Rana Hamadeh structured through several evolving iterations. Preceded by a study group, the exhibition at Wittte de With Center for Contemporary Art will be followed by a theatrical production premiering at Theater Rotterdam, a publication, and a film.
The theater production is being compiled and rehearsed inside the exhibition space. Loosely based on Kafka’s mouse songstress Josephine, it genuinely engenders new modalities of readership and spectatorship. The exhibition can be regarded as a living, constantly changing sound game, in which the limit of performance, spectacle and experience is being tested. Through a system of interconnected and interactive sound zones, characters and events are formed in a theater process that takes place in concert with a repeatedly played forty-minute soundtrack. The spatial performance of the original opera score will be interrupted by live-processed visitor interventions.
