Urban Farming has established the Urban Farming Food Chain™, a vertical farming project. The Food Chain consists of "edible" food-producing wall panels mounted on walls of buildings, growing fresh organic produce.
The Urban Farming Food Chain Edible Wall Gardens act as "links" connecting each location by intention and design, as well as presenting a new definition for the familiar term, 'food chain'. Los Angeles was the pilot city for the project in 2008. This year we have expanded to locations in New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Hawaii and Vancouver BC. The Food Chain is a sustainable gardening system that offers immediate access to fresh healthy produce. We offer instruction on nutrition, environmental issues, team-building, skills-training and self-sufficiency, while providing an opportunity for community service and involvement. In addition, particularly in areas where concrete and steel are plentiful and ground space and greenery are scarce, the Urban Farming Edible Wall Gardens will help to lower the heat index and help reverse the effects of global warming.
