Where Would We be Without Curiosity, Discovery, and Wonder?
By choosing the College of Liberal Arts, our students choose to explore the big questions and confront the grand challenges.
As the only liberal arts college in Minnesota with a research-intensive mission, CLA is a unique place for students who are driven to discover. We’re one of fewer than 100 universities in the country designated as “R-1,” with a mission that includes both the importance of teaching and the priority of creating new knowledge.
Our faculty are widely recognized leaders in their fields. They are creators, innovators, and pioneers who are conducting transformative research in their fields—and our students are encouraged to share in the excitement of discovery.
Through CLA’s Freshman Research and Creative Awards Program and the University-wide undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, our faculty mentor students in research techniques, fostering their ability to dive deeply into a question, to seek truth, and to contribute to our collective knowledge.
This video features three CLA students: CAITLYN SLAWNY, speech-language-hearing sciences (Daniel L. McFadden & Beverlee T. Field & Mary K. Field Scholarship).
