Founded in 2003, current members are Hua Dong, Lumi Liu, and Huang Jin, Re-TROS is one of China’s most influential experimental rock bands. Their albums — CUT OFF, Watch Out! Climate Has Changed, Fat Mum Rises…, and Before the Applause — show a focus on precise structures, restraint, and tense, crafted sound. They also toured as a guest act for Depeche Mode.
Onstage, Re-TROS avoids theatrics, relying on exact rhythms, strict dynamics, and spatial tension. The minimal surface is dense and deliberate — a compressed, inward force.
Their creative world draws on the absurdity and symbolism of a highly organized culture, absorbing literature, film, and contemporary art. Nonlinear lyrics, electronic textures, and the mix of machines and instruments form layered spaces balancing minimalism and emotional weight.
Internationally, they are known for refined craft and cross-cultural resonance, with collaborations involving Brian Eno, Damon McMahon, and Hector Castillo.
