Trinity Lo Fi was born in a tiny one bedroom apartment in Japan. I had flown there with a brand new camera and my own savings to practise cinematography and editing as an alternative to University. I had already dropped out of higher education once in College, feeling creativity was being restricted and thought doing things independently would provide more food for the soul. I was making simple music videos for Helgeland 8-Bit Squad, a Norwegian digital reggae duo, and found their riddims to be so fun and inspiring I started writing songs with no real plan. The death of a best friend brought me home from Australia where I had moved to after Japan, and I didn't hesitate to link up with childhood friend and local prodigy Zico Mc to collaborate on the songs. This quickly evolved into a larger project and we founded the group, naming it after two of my biggest influences, Trinity Roots from New Zealand and Lotek Hi-Fi from the UK. Our first music video filmed with long time collaborator JJ (Hogg Photography) filled us with joy and confidence of the things we could achieve.
5 years, many music videos and internationally collaborative releases later, the project is still going strong. There are four albums due for release in 2019 and I have some really interesting ideas for 2020, including a sci-fi rap musical, a 24 hour live stream of me writing and recording a full trap album and a trip to Jamaica to collaborate with reggae singers and Zico MC whilst filming the music videos. Everything I have done has been paid for out of my own hard work in various jobs including foraging, playground construction and climbing some of the biggest trees in Canada as an arborist...
This work and creation is starting to become quite hard to balance.
I invite you to support me on this incredible journey, knowing in full confidence that my one aim is to produce positive ripples and counteract the meaningless, poisonous void of content that plagues a lot of the popular rap out there.
