An excerpt from the first part of "Beyond Mara", the centre piece and emotional heart of the forthcoming Trikala album by Simon Thacker's Svara-Kanti. In addition to instrumental music featuring luminaries of Hindustani, Carnatic and Western classical music showcasing the most advanced manifestation of Thacker's Indo-Western musical language thus far, Trikala will also feature reimaginings of Punjabi, Baul and Tagore songs, with leading performers from India, Bangladesh and the UK.
Beyond Mara is a musical epic by Simon Thacker in two parts harnessing both an intense and prescient compositional language and fierce, impassioned improvisation, performed by three remarkable musicians: Thacker himself, having been at the forefront of East-West collaboration for almost a decade; virtuoso violinist and leader of one of the world's most distinguished chamber orchestras, Britten Sinfonia, Jacqueline Shave; and the force of nature that is tabla maestro Sukhvinder Singh "Pinky", whose many notable achievements include performing on the seminal Grammy Award winning album "A Meeting By The River".
"Beyond Mara" utilises Thacker's unique supra-raga concept and his singularly powerful rhythmic language in a kaleidoscopically transforming large scale composition.
Trikala is supported by Creative Scotland, Gem Arts and the Hope Scott Trust.
