PhoneFlare is a free safety app developed by volunteers to curtail instances of sexual assault on college campuses and make them easier to prosecute. The app texts friends and family your location when in danger and automatically calls your school's safety dispatch if you're on campus. Triggering an alarm is as easy as ripping an accessory from the headphone or charging port, or setting a check-in time you fail to meet. Advanced features prevent coercion and allow audio recording during emergencies, along with the logging nearby device UDIDs for use as potential evidence. PhoneFlare is totally free, fully open-source under GNU GPL and all server and accessory costs are paid by donations or out of pocket by our volunteers. Free accessories are manufactured for distribution on campuses and women's shelters. While designed to curtail instances of sexual assault on campuses, PhoneFlare can have practical applications for everyone, including children and the elderly.
