Davey D., host of KPFA's Hard Knock radio program interviews Dr. Cornel West at Saint Mary's College of California. The noted author and activist delivered the keynote address at Saint Mary's Leadership & Social Justice Conference on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014.

A professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and professor emeritus at Princeton University, West delivered a speech, entitled “Prophetic Imagination: Confronting The New Jim Crow and Income Inequality in America.” West addressed the continued legacy of racial injustice in the nation, including income inequality, increasing poverty rates in communities of color, the mass incarceration of young men, and increasingly young women, of color, and how the recent killing of an unarmed 18-year-old black teen by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo, is the latest example of oppressive police brutality against young black men in America.

KPFA spoke with West about his book and his planned activism in Ferguson, Mo., two days before he was arrested in the town. Show less
