For the third night in a row, 10-year-old Ethan called out from his bed. His dad massages his sore leg just like the physiotherapist showed him, which helped. But not for long.
That’s because the pain in Ethan’s leg wasn’t growing pains. It was cancer.
Ethan’s journey began last December. Long trips downtown for chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and two difficult surgeries on his leg. Then they found Southlake. Not only is it much closer to home, Ethan and his parents felt instantly comfortable here, and confident that Ethan was getting the best – and the most compassionate – care possible.
Last December, most families were celebrating the holidays. But not Ethan. Him and his family were reeling from the shock of his cancer diagnosis, and preparing for his first surgery and treatments to begin.
Cancer took Ethan’s leg. But he won’t let it take his spirit.
December 3rd, is Giving Tuesday – a day in the wake of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping that focuses on spending that makes a difference for your community.
Will you make a gift to Southlake and help patients like Ethan get the care they need when they need it most?
Your gift will put urgently-needed tools, equipment and technology in the hands of Southlake’s expert teams, enabling them to provide the best possible care for you and your loved ones.
