Leila began making collages of jewelry as a counterpoint to her painting. She was inspired when she saw a print by the British horticulturalist Robert Ferber.
Laila’s art extends a tradition that goes back to the Mannerist painter Bronzino, whose paintings I once compared to the dangerous beauty of a coral snake.
