Their latest full-blown studio album 'The Time Thief' is now on pre-sale on https://redtenbachersfunkes...
"While some funk bands labour under their influences, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra have used some deeply embedded ingredients to produce an album that’s dripping with slinky riffs and smooth new grooves." (Nick Wells - Editor iBass Magazine UK)
"It’s a delightful melange of sounds, moods, and eras, less time thief than time traveler. If this is a harbinger of the world in 2048 – witty, diverse, open-minded, with funk and groove for all – I’m feeling a bit more hopeful about the future." (Juliet Eastland - independent music writer, Boston)
‘The Time Thief’ is Redtenbacher’s Funkestra ninth full blown studio album. Stefan has teamed up with an impressive array of guest artists masterfully accompanied by the core London based live band. Somewhat a ‘Saxophone Colossus’ version of a Jazz Funk record, he invited these heavy weight saxophonists to play on the recording:
- Alfred ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis (James Brown, Van Morrison)
- Rick Margitza (Miles Davis, Blue Note artist)
- Chris Hunter (Gil Evans Orchestra, Michael Camilo NY Big Band)
- Andy Snitzer (Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Sting)
Stefan again collaborated with long standing horn arranger and trombonist Michael B Nelson (of the late Prince) - co-writing the horn arrangements and recording them with Michael B Nelson’s very own ‘Hornheads’ from Minneapolis.
In addition Stefan has hooked up with hot & upcoming Amsterdam Glitch Funk producer Beat Fatigue to offer a cutting edge contemporary electronic spin on of the tracks and possibly
signposting the shape of Redtenbacher’s Jazz Funk to come.
