Paul Shapiro - Alt-Meat CEO and Author

A Sacramento, California-based entrepreneur, animal advocate, author, and podcast host, Paul Shapiro leads The Better Meat Co. as CEO. Drawing on more than two decades of animal protection experience, he co-founded the business-to-business startup in 2018 and employs a team of scientists, engineers, and chefs who have created the Rhiza mycoprotein to satiate society's collective "meat tooth."  

A leading authority on agriculture and sustainable food systems, Shapiro has been interviewed by hundreds of news outlets and has authored hundreds of articles. His work has been featured in daily publications, including The Washington Post, as well as magazines, academic journals, and pop-sci publications. 

In addition, Shapiro is the author of Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World. In the book, he details the "Second Domestication" of animals and how industry leaders are working to develop real and sustainable meat without slaughtering animals.
