Spiked Coffee was recorded in one driving session using the Insta360 One camera. It's awesome. It allows you to record all image data in a scene and warp it using the automation in their editing software. We use it in basically everything we do, from live shows to music videos. We put it on the car dashboard and drove around Cape Town one late afternoon. Johnny settled on some of the more interesting footage (like going under bridges and shots of Table Mountain and Nelson Mandela).
Fun fact: there is only one shot in the whole video where the footage is in reverse. See if you can spot it.
About the track:
The track started as a few diminished chords by Johnny on an Ibanez AF75 jazz guitar. Those are the chords that sound incomplete, homeless. Gareth soloed on clarinet and we chose a few colorful notes from his bebop style to loop and use as a theme. Then, we layered that theme with baritone sax, flute and piccolo. Django played live drum sounds over a basic electronic beat and also completed the production. Mr Wolff contributed the sweet bass tones on Bertha, his upright. Then a friend of ours from the local band The Pebble Shakers (Angelo) did the trumpet solo. We call this type of music #futurejazz.
