We... like you, are lovers of the artistic and storytelling medium that is animation, and on October 28th we are meant to celebrate animation on an INTERNATIONAL scale but in most cases, we only see animation of a similar sect usually getting most of the general awareness or favour - primarily by the well known western developers / producers such as the American cartoon industry ala the Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network offerings OR on the other side of the globe we see the further rise and popularity of Japanese Animation /Anime become more of a talking point in pop culture…..
but what about all the other regions in between? The rest of Europe, Africa, South America, etc - What about all the smaller independent short films or small scale animation projects that never get any substantial promotion or awareness?
Many will just say “they are probably not good enough in comparison to what we usually see” or “Other animation out there is not worth promoting” but the truth is there are thousands of animators out there trying to produce more creative and unique animations that need our support and attention
To further the awesomeness that is the medium of animation we need to see if flourish and mature in every world sector possible, that way we can evolve and use animation to tell even more creative stories or inspire new ways of capturing the imagination
If we don’t attempt to further push the boundaries and awareness of different types of animation the status quo will stay the same as it has always been with the evolution of animation walking at a snails pace
Leaving it up to a single glamorised award ceremony or just one institution does not cut it, things are being overlooked and missed left and right but with the help of the internet and YOU we can shine the light on more works of creativity and variety ..and possibly give budding young animators more of an incentive to WANT to do something different
We are not cutting out the animations that we know and love today in this celebration… we just want to evenly share the spotlight and see what else is being created, so….. for International Animation Day why not find a noteworthy or promising animation project and … write about it, blog about it, repost it to Facebook, twitter and just SHARE your thoughts and findings on any other viable social media to anyone you think may get behind this celebration
Remind people that International Animation Day is a day where we not only celebrate the birth of animation, but it’s further evolution and development worldwide
If you can’t find something new or different… well… just talk about your favourite show as a kid, something you are watching that you love right now and would recommend, whether it’s old or new, anime or cartoon, Spanish or African, a YouTube short or Short Animation Film, let’s just celebrate animation on a worldwide scale and show our appreciation to the medium that millions of people across the world enjoy on a daily basis!
