Power skips are a very useful ballistic activity for improving lower body power, jumping mechanics, triple extension efficiency and posterior chain connectivity. During the skip, the participant must explosively push off the plant leg to jump as high as possible - while driving the opposite leg into significant hip and knee flexion. Meanwhile, the arms travel contra-laterally to assist vertical acceleration. Upon landing, the action is repeated using the opposite leg to drive off of the ground following a rapid transition step.
The trainer can guide the participant to emphasize vertical or horizontal distance with each skip. In any case the flexed hip must be driven as high as possible and synchronized triple extension during each push-off should be ensured.
