This presentation focused on one of the most important events of Colombian history: "El Bogotazo". This event refers to the massive riots that followed the assassination in Bogotá, Colombia of Liberal leader and presidential candidate Jorge Eliécer Gaitán on April 9, 1948. The 10 hour riot left 3,000 to 5,000 dead and thousands injured, with much of downtown Bogotá destroyed. This incident is considered as one of the leading causes to the current socio-political situation in Colombia. This event introduced the world premiere of "el Bogotazo," a symphonic work composed by Colombian pianist, Mr. Pablo Mayor. The work was performed by the MMG Orchestra under the direction of arranger and producer, Mr. Luis Columna.
