The Comprehensive National Coastal Monitoring Programme
(CNCMP) Seeks to Target Coasts at Risk
Coastal erosion can be described as a “monster that beckons”. The effects of coastal erosion and flooding coupled with extreme weather events associated with climate change have been felt throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
In order to address this issue of coastal erosion, the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Coastal Protection Unit officially launched the Comprehensive National Coastal Monitoring Project (CNCMP). The CNCMP seeks to target and address the issue of coastal erosion through the use of scientific data, where coastal managers will be better equipped to identify, document and provide relevant information to inform sustainable shoreline management decisions. It will bridge the gap between science and decision making as it pertains to the management of our shorelines.
This video serves as a reminder of the communities and people that stand to lose everything unless a more targeted approach is taken to save our coast.
