Hi I'm Mara Menzies, Performance Storyteller, Story Maker and so much more.
I love stories! The way the words draw out new imaginings, the way we interpret them! I love audiences, young and old, their shining eyes as they are drawn into new worlds
Inspired and influenced by stories from both my Scottish and African cultural heritage, I create narratives that draw heavily on these rich oral sources. I am lucky to have collaborated with some incredible artists and worked with organisations who love and appreciate the power of story, including the British Council, Story Crossroads, The University of Edinburgh, Mastercard Foundation. I have been an invited speaker for the Clinton Global Initiative University and my show 'Blood and Gold', exploring  the legacy of colonialism and slavery through fantasy was part of the Made in Scotland showcase 2019 and nominated for the Filipa Braganca award for best solo emerging female artist.
