Hours after Claire Russell's birth, she began the fight for her life. She was diagnosed with a rare heart defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries. Knowing that she needed the best care possible, Claire was air lifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Before she was even three days old, doctors performed two complex procedures on Claire’s heart—an atrial septostomy and an arterial switch.
Claire’s heart never missed a beat. After two weeks of treatment, the Russells were able to take their baby home. And in these last seven years, you have helped Le Bonheur take its heart institute to new heights, with recent naming by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons as a three-star program.
Today, Claire is an outgoing kid who loves to perform. She was recently cast in her first role as a forest animal in the play Snow White. She’s a ballet dancer, a soccer player, and an expert tea party host. Claire remains a patient of Le Bonheur for all of her follow-up care.
