All dogs, no matter what the end goal will be, should FIRST be trained in "Phase 1". Phase 1 obedience training is the first of three phases in "foundation style" dog training. Dogs in this phase are trained completely using positive reinforcement and negative punishment only. This basically means the giving and taking away of things that the dog likes. Mastering a scientific approach to first teach the behaviors will set the "foundation" for teaching the dog the concept that they must also obey the commands. This is taught in phase 2 obedience. Phase 3 obedience is where the dog is taught to also obey reliably in high distraction environments. Please SUBSCRIBE to us, share, and embed our playlist to support our work of teaching an unbiased and truly scientific method of dog training. Through this support we can bring you many more videos on more advanced obedience and training.
Phase 2 training can be done using a choice of many different training collars depending on your preference. Phase 2 is for teaching the concepts of discipline in a gentle fashion after the dog has learned what the commands are and why the commands are good in Phase 1.
This playlist shows how to teach Phase 2 with the option of a halti, gentle leader, or other similar type collars.
Obedience around strong distractions and obedience for dogs that are having more difficult impulse control issues are handled in PHASE 3 obedience.
