Rachel Barcellona will be the first to tell you that she’s a person, just like everybody else. She’s involved in drama and art, sings the National Anthem for special events, and competes successfully in beauty pageants. She is the reigning Miss Southeast International.
As if that isn't enough, Rachel is also founder of "Ability Beyond Disabilities" -- her personal platform to help those with disabilities. Rachel has Asperger's Syndrome (on the autism spectrum) and epilepsy, yet she is one of the most highly functioning young people you'll meet.
In the video above, "Living with Autism," Rachel talks about how many people -- including doctors -- told her she couldn’t do anything because of her autism — but that didn’t slow her down. Rachel had the GUTS to overcome many negative expectations people had of her and has grown into a talented, confident young woman.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re autistic, deaf, blind, mute, whatever,” she said during her interview with ABC News. “You can accomplish anything and not let your disability hold you back.”
