Video upgrade! I've been saving for a new camera for a while, and I was finally able to purchase a Canon EOS T3i! Lots of other folks on the YouTubes have one of these, and they're a great entry-level DSLR camera, and with a little bit of good lighting and some good focusing, you can get super results! I think these improvements are quite evident in this video, hope they make the music sound better somehow...
This tune was inspired by RichaadEB's cover of this same tune that he put out on Operation: 1-UP. I've listened to his rendition countless times, the quality and the sound is just so incredible, it's such a journey to listen to. I tried to emulate the emotions he created with that cover through the use of a jazz setting as opposed to his incredible post-rock interpretation. However, I chose not to use saxophone in this cover. This choice was partly out of my control, but I think the cover turned out quite well even without the my signature black sax.
Mixing this tune was mainly focused around keeping each instrument audible and transferring the melody between octaves of the piano and electric keyboard. The keyboard's sound gets muddy very easily, so I had to EQ that quite a bit to prevent unnecessary buildup of frequencies. Also, I've widened the keyboards and the drums by duplicating the outputs, and panning them to separate sides while delaying one side by a small amount of milliseconds. This is generally a quick fix to get wider sounding intsruments, which really fill up the sonic horizontal space. Really necessary on a beautiful tune like this.
