Good morning, evening, night depending where you’re watching from, InformalMantis here and welcome to the second episode of my new “David’s Story” series. If you haven’t seen the first episode, I strongly advise you pause this video and go watch it because stories tend to make a lot more sense when you start from the beginning. I’ll post an annotation to the first episode below.

The final months of 2013 were some of the hardest David ever faced. Sometimes he would get really upset at the whole situation. But who could blame him? How many hours do you have to spend in a hospital before it starts to feel like a prison? How many needles do you have to get pricked with before you feel like an experiment? How many times do you have to get sick from Chemo before you reach your breaking point? I saw his struggle and I did everything I could to help him with it. I would visit 3-4 times a week. And these weren’t just quick drop by and leave visits either. I would stay for around 6 hours every time. Sometimes more. I truly wanted him to feel like he had my support 100% of the time.

Visiting David was funny in a sense. We signed out the xbox on his floor at the very beginning of his stay and because I visited so often, and because we played so many video games when I was there, the xbox pretty much stayed in his hospital room for 5 straight months. Everybody knew David was the lord of the xbox. Since David and I loved the same video and board games, the visits didn’t feel like visits at all. It felt like we were just hanging out like normal. And that right there is another piece of wisdom I can share with you guys. If someone you know is sick with something really bad, don’t focus on the illness. If they want to talk about it with you, then talk about it. Otherwise, try to help them get their mind off of things by doing something you both enjoy.
David put up one hell of a fight against his cancer in 2013. He was definitely tough as nails to be able to go through that many procedures, and a hero to everyone that knew about him because of his determination to survive. David was beating his cancer at this point too. He was able to be released from the hospital for a couple days at a time since he was doing so well. He came to my family’s new year’s party. Things were looking up towards the end of 2013.

And that concludes the second episode of my David’s story series. You can show your support for my channel by leaving a like, a favorite, or a comment. InformalMantis Out. Show less
