Subterranean Disposition - All Roads Lead to Perdition
From the album: Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure

    Video created by: Terry Vainoras
    Footage: Open-source

“ All roads lead to perdition” touches lyrically on many facets of our decline as a species that could attribute to an extinction event or apocalypse in our lifetimes. To me the tone of the music invokes a similar feeling when reading Cormac Macarthy’s “The Road”- a post apocalyptic journey down that road to hell, so I have tried to combine that feeling with the lyric concepts in an open to interpretation way, following the dynamics of the music very close visually on its long trip, from ignorance to disorder, death and beyond."
    -T. Vainoras

Album description: Nearly four years after releasing the debut self-titled album, Melbourne based Experimental Death-Doom band Subterranean Disposition returns with a massive new full-length album entitled “Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure.” With over two decades of experience in various projects, (including in bands such as Cryptic Darkness, The Eternal, and Insomnium Dei among others), Subterranean Disposition founder Terry Vainoras brings with him a plethora of writing and recording experience, and has used that to his advantage, in crafting an unmistakably bold, creative, and forward-thinking album that incorporates as many elements and techniques outside the doom metal genre as within it.

Asides from a wide variety of guitars, bass, and vocal styles, Terry also plays saxophone on the album, and enlisted the help of Dan Nahum (Bleakwood, The Veil, Dead River Runs Dry) on Drums, Gelareh Pour on Kemancheh, Qeychak Alto and voice, and Daniel Lucas on guest vocals. All-in-all, a wide variety of sound textures, dynamics, and emotion are incorporated into this album, ultimately crafting an album drenched in atmosphere and post-apocalyptic fervor with subtle and careful deliberation in every aspect of its writing and recording.

“Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure” was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Calaitzis at Toyland studio in Melbourne Australia, and the album cover was crafted by acclaimed New York artist Coby O’Brien (whose cover art also appears on past HDR compilations). This album will be jointly released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and BadMoodMan Music on June 13, 2016.

  • Frigoris - Nur ein Moment... Play all

Frigoris is a post black metal band rooted in the heart of the ruhr-area, Germany. The combination between Black Metal riffing and craftsmanship as well as a postmodern approach towards atmosphere and lyrics form a synthesis that results in long, atmospheric but melodious songs. The isolation and depression in modern society, the beauty of nature and a last pure shimmer of hope left are all tropes you can feel and read in the tracks. The trampled and narrow paths of Black Metal are left to find a new identity at the end of Parnassus.

The third album “Nur ein Moment…” (Just one moment…) is the current peak of this development. A combination of the typical Frigoris sound, established in the highly praised predecessor “Wind”, with extensive elements of Post Rock and Doom form six epic and atmospheric pieces that are supported by the lyrical concept leading us on the tracks of a protagonist who faces the consequences of suicide in an interior journey. The more than 52 minutes work was given the perfect mixture between modern and natural sound by Daniel Heyn (live mixer of Primordial, Secrets of the Moon, Ruins of Beverast, etc.) who caught the atmosphere of the album at the perfect spot.

“Nur ein Moment…” will be released through Hypnotic Dirge Records on August 25 in a 4panel digipack/12 page booklet.

  • Negative Voice - Cold Redrafted Play all

Based in Moscow, Negative Voice have been in existence since 2000. After an independently released EP in 2010, they released their debut album “Infinite Dissonance” in 2013 on Inverse Records which received a lot of favourable reviews and comparisons to old-Katatonia, October Tide, and Daylight Dies. It was with this album that Negative Voice drew our attention as well and we featured them on Hypnotic Dirge’s 2013 compilation release. Since then, Negative Voice has been busy writing a follow-up album to a solid debut, with the result being an album entitled “Cold, Redrafted” ready for release in March 2016 on Hypnotic Dirge Records and BadMoodMan Music.

“Cold, Redrafted” builds upon what is found on the debut and adds a lot of new elements as well. At its core, the album is still Blackened Doom in the vein of the genre giants, but on this album Negative Voice expands on that, adding clean vocals, experimenting with song structure and textures, and including influences from other genres, enthralling melodies and a progressive sound to an album drenched in darkness. Creative melodies and riffs as well as a masterful command of song flow aid in making this an extremely solid album filled with instantly memorable songs.

  • Immensity - The Isolation Splendour Play all

Hypnotic Dirge Records and Solitude Productions presents the debut album entitled “The Isolation Splendour” from the Greek doomsters “Immensity” Active since 2009, Immensity is a six-piece atmospheric death-doom band from Athens. Since their founding, they have played many shows and in 2012 released the demo “The Lonely Aquarelle” which received favourable feedback including the honour of being named #1 new band in the Clandestine Cut of the Year in Metal Storm Webzine.

A mature sound emanates from the memorable melodies and captivating atmosphere present in “The Isolation Splendour” combining the essential feeling of early 90’s doom metal such as early-Paradise Lost, and My Dying Bride while also providing the melancholic gothic-tinge of bands such as Draconian or The Foreshadowing. filling a thick wall of sound soaked in melancholy and grief. Immensity’s genius is not necessarily in incorporating sludgy, slow, or depressive elements but more in crafting grandiose and memorable hooks contrasted by relatively heavy and deep doom.

“The Isolation Splendour” features five brand new monolithic tracks, and also includes the two tracks from “The Lonely Aquarelle” demo so that the entire Immensity discography will be represented together. With a massive total runtime of approximately 68 minutes, the album can be described as a comprehensive yet intricate journey into atmospheric and melodic death-doom.

The album was recorded by Justin Bender (Third Ion / ex-Into Eternity)earlier this year at Blue Door Studio in Regina, SK. Nachtterror
Nachtterror is a Canadian Blackened Doom project established in 2004. Focused on creating an epic soundscape with an intense concentration on storytelling, Nachtterror aims to create acaptivating and emotionally engaging doom metal experience.

Nachtterror's music reflects emotional states more so than concepts and ideas. From the violent, agony of anger and suffering to the numb discontent of depression, all states of being are experimented and explored.

As well as the upcoming "Of Ash and Dying Light" split with Altars of Grief, Nachtterror is also currently in works to release a full length album entitled "Judgement".

    Altars of Grief
Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Altars of Grief was conceived in the frigid, winter months of 2013. The band draws from an eclectic musical background, weaving soaring choral arrangements with powerful, driving death metal; morose, gothic doom and frantic, uptempo black metal passages. In 2014, the band released its debut album, This Shameful Burden and followed up with a tour of central Canada in its support.

Altars of Grief's material on "Of Ash and Dying Light" is an incredible step for the band, delivering some of the best melancholic blackened doom in Canada and following in the footsteps of greats such as Woods of Ypres! Reflective, sombre, and personal lyrics and music drenched in atmosphere, this is definitely a band to watch that has arisen from the Central Prairie Plains!
