Spitsbergen is Norway’s Arctic crown. Dramatic, frozen, and deeply rooted in Norwegian polar history. It was here that our founder, Richard With, established the our first tourism operations into the Arctic North more than 100 years ago.
To this day Svalbard and Spitsbergen is at the heart of all that we do and as much a part of our DNA now as then.
Regardless of whether your looking for the North, the Lights, or the Polar Bear Svalbard is the place for you.
The Icelandic Sagas of tell us that Greenland got its rather confusing name from Erik the Red, an exiled viking who (the sagas say) named it Greenland to attract more to move their homesteads there. Known as Kalaallit Nunaat by the indigenous Kalaallit Greenland has a complicated shared history, with plenty to see and explore still today. Picture the remnants of abandonded farmsteads, or the locals who still maintain traditions centuries old.
Picture also a land with a surprisingly verdant southern tip that still has most of its landmass buried underneath an ice-sheet that is milennia old and so large that the icebergs it calves can be islands of their own.
