Roger Soto, director of design in HOK's Houston office, describes the design concept of the Capital Market Authority Tower in the King Abdullah Financial Center of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Soaring 1,260 feet above the city, the CMA Tower is the tallest of five structures that make up the financial plaza.
Take a fly-through tour of the high-performance solar control system that moderates the intense Saudi light and heat. External layer of fins, gantries and perforated panels help minimize solar gain and internal cooling loads, reducing HVAC requirements. Electrical energy is reclaimed through a photovoltaic array installation on the tower’s roof.
HOK designed the tower, which is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification, in collaboration with Omrania & Associates.
