Free New York episode #427, "Goodbye, CBGB," takes a look at the last night CBGB was open, on October 15, 2006. Several fans of the club tell us their opinions of and experiences at CBGB, including musician Matt Pless, artist Andrew Galindo, a member of the Hungry March Band, and legendary Lower East Side musician David Peel, who closes our program with the song "Goodbye, CBGB" while several photos of the club's interior remind us of what we're losing.
Episode 16 of the TV series "East Side/West Side." Originally aired on the CBS network on January 27, 1964. Molly (Maureen Stapleton) and Sam (J. D. Cannon) are a poverty-stricken couple: he, a skid-row alcoholic addicted to paint thinner, and she, a love-struck bag lady who can't pull herself away from Sam's side. At her behest, social worker Neil Brock (George C. Scott) intervenes to help her onto a slightly better path than the one she's carved out for herself--but will Sam follow?
This is just one out of twenty-six remarkable episodes that ran on CBS during the 1963-1964 season. I hope this entire series becomes available on DVD at some point. I would buy that box in an instant.
