What do we think about when we think about home? To the fortunate, it is a place of love and comfort and where you can be you. Yet for many it can be a troubled place, perhaps mired in poverty, abuse, or war; a place you must leave. This year the UMass Fine Arts Center's theme is “Finding Home” and how we define it.
In 'Star of the Sea,' a beautiful production of the Irish company Moonfish Theatre, we meet emigrants leaving a homeland ravaged by famine in hopes of finding a new home. Other stories include that of 40 young female warriors defending their homes (Qyrq Qyz: Music & Film from Central Asia), and the acrobatic troupe Machine de Cirque’s hilariously-told tale about creating a new home with strangers after an apocalyptic event. The FAC will also be raising the roof and having some fun with Fab Faux, the Underwater Bubble Show, and the Slavic Soul Party, to name just a few.
