Every ten days one construction worker is killed at work. This is a national disgrace.
There are almost a million Australians employed in the construction industry and pound-for-pound they are some of the hardest working people in the country. They work within an industry that is driven by a profit-at-all-cost attitude and ridiculously tight deadlines. This directly leads to shortcuts and neglect that result in tragedy.
These construction workers don’t need the ABCC and star chambers to intimidate them; they don’t need the Building and Construction Industry Code to decimate their workplace agreements and living standards; what they need is the right to come home to their families the same way they left in the morning.
As part of highlighting this unacceptable statistic we are running this commercial on national TV at different times over the coming year.
Support construction workers and their strong unions that defend their safety at work. Let’s all fix this national disgrace.
