Changing Ireland editor Allen Meagher asked Minister Michael Ring for his views on - and vision for - Local Development Companies. Minister Ring gave a wide-ranging answer. He was in Limerick for the national launch of the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) on April 20th, 2018. Local Development Companies play an integral part in delivering the programme at community level.
Dublin's Northside Partnership is really getting people back to work - 98 people have (by June 2010) started their own businesses following a short course in Coolock. Three on-site interviews with: a young man who was laid off and who wants to set up a business, a woman who runs a free course to help people do just that and a member of staff from Northside Partnership which set up the course. 'Planning for Business' in Coolock is probably Ireland's most successful course of its kind in the country. With 450,000 unemployed as of mid-2010, we need to see a lot more of this work! The Northside Partnership is part of the national Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP).
