Obesity is a complex issue with many causes, but one of the biggest influences is the world we live in. While we think we’re in control of what we eat, we’re all – especially children - being influenced more than we realise. Teens who recall seeing junk food ads are twice as likely to be obese, and children who are obese are around five times more likely to remain so as an adult.

Cancer Research UK's Grand Challenge is the most ambitious cancer research initiative in the world: a series of £20m awards seeking international, multidisciplinary teams willing to take on the toughest challenges in cancer, and providing the freedom to try novel approaches, at scale.
To date, we’ve funded seven teams across nine countries representing an investment of up to £130m over the next five-years.
Right now, we’re asking the international research community to help us shape our next set of Grand Challenges. Share your idea for a Grand Challenge through our online form or run your own challenge-setting workshop at your institution – find out more about how to get involved.
We’ll reveal the next round of Grand Challenges in February 2020 – get ready to apply.
