  • Gary's story - the importance of bowel cancer screening Play all

Gary was diagnosed with pre-cancerous polyps after doing his first FOBT (faecal occult blood test), a simple screen for identifying those with or at risk for bowel cancer. Following a second positive FOBT his Specialist and GP advised him to have a colonoscopy. This resulted in a diagnosis for bowel cancer. His cancer was detected early and removed with surgery. Gary now encourages other people over 50 to participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) and talk to their GP if they have any concerns.
