The Bread Houses Network unites centers for community-building, creativity and social entrepreneurship. Our mission is to drive positive social change through high-touch bread-making services that nurture respect, inclusion and creativity in the community. We achieve this by organizing collective bread making events that engage people from all ages, professions, gender and ethnic backgrounds. The concept of the Bread House to be an accessible and friendly space where people from all walks of life can gather and participate in collective creative activities in a manner that underlines their equality and takes into account their different abilities.
The first Bread House was created in the Bulgarian town Gabrovo in 2008. Тhe headquarters of the organization are based in the Sofia Bread House, located in the capital of Bulgaria. Currently there are a total of 9 physical Bread Houses in 8 towns in Bulgaria, and 5 Bread House Programs hosted by local social organizations (Varna, Tarnovo, Pleven, Stara Zagora, Kostinbrod).
The Bread Houses Network is a program of the International Council for Cultural Centers - a non-governmental organization established in 2008 which is uniting and representing community cultural centers from 56 countries around the world, but also consulting governmental and non-governmental institutions in the field of using "arts for social change".
