Dear BioTecNika members
How are you?
Today We Just thought to tell you about certain things which we feel you must know as a Biotechnologist working in India
Why BioTecNika Exists?
Well, today We will question our existence. You know why? Coz unless we know our purpose we don't get to know our direction. So let us try to know why we exist and how we survived. No solution can exist unless there underlies a problem.
So what Problem we identified and are trying to address?
If you look at the current scenario in our country, We are importing everything. While Mahatma Gandhi gave us a slogan that we should encourage and use swadeshi we are so much westernized in our outlook today that we don't mind if the product is from a global MNC or a local company.
This is fine as long as it is for sectors such as food, clothing technology etc but 2 sectors must never be dependent on foreign tech and that is Defence and Medicines, even food and clothing should not. But you see we all are depending heavily on foreign-made medicines and that means any day companies can hold us to ransom.
A complete course of Antibiotic today costs 170 Rs, that is 17 Rs per Tablet. We are sure its affordable for you but not for many of the underprivileged poor whose daily income is less than 150 Rs. What if tomorrow there is an outbreak and we do not have ample researchers and you and I have to pay 4 times the cost just because a foreign pharma company decides to reap profits out of our weakness.
So, what shall we do? Sit like puppets in hands of foreign MNC's ? or shall we encourage our young generation to pursue research? Indigenous research is the answer to everything. We are not against foreign MNC's but why it should be a one-way transaction? Why we should depend on them and why they should not depend on us. Serum Institute of India came out with a 1$ Vaccine. The world watched in despair. We Indians should not fall prey to costly tech instead we need to develop our own tech, whether its food, pharma, defense or any other sector.
And you can empower our country!
How? Let me explain. Each time you meet a researcher or a would be Biotechnologist, inspire and encourage them, Tell young Post grads to pursue research you empower India. Each time someone goes into CSIR Lab with the help of BioTecNika we empower India and Indian research community. You have the power to change the future of India.
One Student at a Time!
We have also created a Video which will explain why We support CSIR Labs so much. Have a Look at that too.
We would love to know your views. Feel free to respond back to this video if we were able to provoke your thoughts in this matter.
So, Can We count you as a soldier in our 11-Year-old crusade to encourage indigenous Research?
