Here is a truly exciting opportunity to deliver a unique natural rock laboratory for Industry and University training and research in Carboniferous rocks, exploiting the man-made landscapes that are a legacy of opencast mining operations in Scotland. The British Geological Survey (BGS http://www.bgs.ac.uk) are working together with the Scottish Mines Restoration Trust (SMRT http://www.smrtrust.org/) to facilitate communities and other stakeholders in bringing together viable restoration plans for the former opencast coal site at Spireslack, near Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. BGS will deliver the strategic geological baseline knowledge to underpin these efforts.
The British Geological Survey is the definitive source of landslide information in Great Britain. Landslides are shown on our geological maps and we maintain the National Landslide Database which has over 15 000 records of landslides in Great Britain. Information is gathered from surveys and reports or as part of our responsive work in Great Britain.
