The renowned criminal psychologist Ira Samin (Natascha McElhone) had prepared her suicide thoroughly. The death of her eldest daughter had weighed too heavily on her conscience ever since the terrible event occurred. Unexpectedly, and in the midst of profound alcohol withdrawal, she is called in to handle a tense hostage situation at a Berlin radio station where a psychopath (Adrian Lester) is playing a morbid game. While the national breakfast show is on air, he calls people from the phone directory at random. If they pick up the phone with his special slogan, a hostage is set free. If they don’t, then the hostage is shot. The man threatens to continue playing this game until his fiancé arrives at the studio...or all of the hostages are dead. The only problem being that his fiancé died several months ago.
Facing seemingly impossible odds, Ira finds herself being drawn further and further into the deadly negotiation; followed at every twist and turn by millions of radio listeners.
