Airmen from the 13th Space Warning Squadron at Clear Air Force Station, Alaska provide early missile warning to U.S. senior leaders should Russia, China or North Korea attempt to launch a missile. The squadron utilizes the Solid State Phased Array Radar System to accomplish this mission. Previously, the 13th SWS used the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System, which was dismantled Fall, 2016.
The 13th SWS is a geographically separated unit from the 21st Space Wing at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
